I have written and erased this post
several times.
It started as a complaint,
bubbled up into a rant,
blew up into a temper tantrum,
and then developed into me standing on my soap box.
However, before I could finish and hit publish,
I had to walk away from the computer to pick
up my son from basketball practice.
While I was driving there,
sitting in the parking lot,
and then driving home again,
it dawned on me that ranting and raving
and complaining about people that offend me
and the ignorant things they say
does not help anyone.
It just adds more poor attitudes and karma into the universe
(like the world needs anymore bad karma)...
and just like that my attitude (and subsequently this post) changed.

So, instead of letting ignorant people bother me,
I am just going to remind myself that they are not hurting me,
they are, instead, reflecting poorly on their own character and intelligence.
And instead of being frustrated and offended,
I will be flattered that the same people asking me questions and
assuming things about my art,
are doing that because they actually like my photography.
So, world...take that.
Some good, positive karma coming your way...
(But I couldn't leave well enough alone to say one little tiny thing...
my camera does not take these pictures.
I create them using my camera, my computer, and my computer software as a tool;
and my knowledge and practice of this art for 12 years...
the same way a painter uses a brush, paint, and canvas
and
his/her skill, eye, and practice to create a painting.
Now I feel much better for having said that.)
Back to the regularly scheduled programming of peace, love and joy...

Well then. Aren't you glad you simmered down? All day, it wasn't a good one. I kept being judgmental - damn parents and their kids that are going to end up being crazy because of their parents. You know, judgmental. It had to stop. I had to force myself. Sucked.
ReplyDeleteGood on you! It's hard not to let ourselves be angered by others, but in the end it's we who choose to react in one way or another. (PS, I'm preaching to myself here!) :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear that story some time, but it's probably just as well that you keep it to yourself. I remember one time a person made a comment about a photo of mine (probably deserved) but it hurt my feelings and I wrote them a long letter (back in the day before email and Internet). I read the letter a couple times then stuck it in a drawer. A week or so later I took it out and ripped it up and threw it away. We were probably both better off that I did that. You are sooooooo right about the camera and the computer being our tools the same as a painter uses brushes and a sculptor uses knives. And OBTW, your camera sure did a nice job on these shots and your keyboard did a nice job on this post. ;^))))
ReplyDeleteThat's a good attitude to have towards them.
ReplyDeleteHope all is better now.
Your little comment at the end reminded me of the "What The Duck" cartoon strip where one says to the other
ReplyDelete"Your camera takes really nice pictures"
and the other replies
"Your mouth makes really nice compliments"
:)
I think you need to tell whoever bugged you this:
ReplyDeleteThere is no camera that can make a picture.
No lens, no lights can make a picture.
Forget about different cameras and accessories, just use what you’ve got.
Only your eyes can make a picture.
I know you can relate when I tell you I've written and deleted many blog posts the past couple weeks about people (teens) I want to rant about but I just can't make myself hit publish. It's probably for the best.
ReplyDeleteYour photography is amazing, I've been a fan for a long time, it's your eye, not your camera that composes and creates those works of art!
I wish you had posted this a couple days ago - then maybe I would have taken your advice and not written something snarky about my neighbor. oh well.
