Day 174/365- Miss Muffet's Nemesis

Does anyone know what kind of spider this fella is?

Speaking of icky creatures,
Brian found out this weekend that
he has Lyme's disease.
About two weeks ago
he was bitten by a deer tick,
much smaller than the dog tick I photographed here,
and he didn't realize it until two days later.

He kept an eye on the spot,
looking for any signs of a bulls-eye
showing up and sure enough,
he developed one.

He was lucky he caught it early
and he is now on antibiotics
before he even developed any symptoms
associated with the disease.

The antibiotics are not pleasant...
you have to take them for 28 days
and they have a host of side effects.
However, those unpleasantries are nothing
compared to the neurological illness
that can occur from the disease.

I am just thankful he caught it.

Please pray for rain for us.
Usually in Maryland we do have quite
a dry summer, but not until mid July or August.
We haven't had any rain to write home about
since the beginning of June
and our grass is dying quickly.
We depend on the grass to feed our animals.
In addition, we have well water,
so we depend on the ground water levels to
remain high for our daily water use.
It is going to be a long summer if we don't get
the rain we need.

Have a wonderful Monday, all!

  1. I don't know what type of spider this is, but I have seen them before. I hope you do get some rain. We have had those conditions here in KY before and it is hard when you have animals that depend on the grass.

  3. I don't recognize the spider. Looks similar to what they call a barn spider, but they have what looks like a face on their underside.

Sweltering heat here in Roanoke, VA as well. We need some rain too. Hubby did not mow the lawn this week-end, he thought it would be too hard on the grass.

So glad Brian caught the fact that he had been bitten and was on top of things. That could have been much worse than the antibiotics.

  4. I am not a spider person...and yikes on all the other stuff. We're pretty dry up here too, and the storms predicted today are not looking too productive. So, so glad you caught that lyme's fast...It can wreak havoc on your whole life....

  6. So glad Brian caught it. Wow!
We have had all your rain. We are accoustomed to damp Junes, but I think this is the wettest on record. I am looking forward to some sunshine when I come east. I'm now hoping for rain for you as well!

  7. Poor Brian. Good thing you did catch it early. It's pretty bad from what I hear.

I told my husband that I know how to make it rain. I sprayed 10 gallons of Brush killer and sure enough it blew in a horrible storm......

  11. Brian is really lucky! Dan found a tick on him the other day. Thankfully we got it off before it actually bit him.

We will be praying for rain up your way. :) I know that they are getting slammed up in the pacific northwest, maybe it will make it all the way to the east coast. Fingers crossed.

  13. Matt had lyme disease and his mother has been dealing with the affects from it for years. Even our dog had it too. Good thing Brian paid attention to the bite.

That spider creeps me out. Cool shot though!
