What this post is really about is Ladybug. Sunday night, as I was sitting on the couch cheering my fool head off for the Ravens, she hung over the couch, placed her mouth next to my ear and whispered shyly, "Mom, when are you going back to the office?"
Irritated to be interrupted during the game (yeah, I am that adamant about seeing the game) I replied that I didn't know...probably not until tomorrow.
She turned her eyes downward, drooped her head, nodded her head and went to get in bed. I didn't think another thing about it...
until Monday morning when I sleepily shuffled into the office to check emails before starting my day. On top of my keyboard was a note from Ladybug. And here is what it said,
"For Mommy and Daddy:
Thanks
I am thankful for TV, game systems, and electronics, but not nearly as thankful for my wants than my needs. Here are a couple. I am thankful for my family because they're loving, caring, and helpful. They love to go on vacations and do fun activities together. God is my second one. With out Him I wouldn't be alive. Without Him I wouldn't be here to be thankful for anything. Last but not least, I am thankful for my rights. If we didn't have rights, nobody would be able to do what they wanted and we wouldn't be free. Everybody would have to do everything the king said without disagreeing. You would have to believe in the same religion too. I am thankful for a lot more than this, but I just wanted for you to know a couple of things I was very, very thankful for.
From: Ladybug"
*sniff* Please tell me why I didn't go to the office when she wanted me to. Sometimes I feel like the worst mother.
On the up side, when I woke her up for school that morning, I bent over close to her ear and whispered, "Ladybug, you make me very proud and I love you very much. I am thankful for being your mom."
And she smiled. She knew EXACTLY what I was referring to.
So, all is well and all is forgiven.
And I am thankful for that.

ReplyDeleteI think she summed it all up in that sweet letter! That brought a tear to my eye!
ReplyDeletePrecious! I think we've all not answered our children at the moment they wanted us to, then at times been sad as we ended up feeling like slugs. Very sweet!
